ABOUT

I first became interested in Isolation due to the conditions I grew up in, very rural Scotland and rural Czech Republic. This interest in isolation was revived by living in London where life literally doesn’t stop moving but in stark contrast. Feeling isolated in a crowd.

I wish to explore isolation in a larger context of humanity and how we have come to feel so isolated and individual at a time when we are most connected. I want the work to feel isolated but in a positive sense that it has become individual.

The majority of research comes from personal experience and the use of social media. How we navigated it and it navigates us. The work is commenting on our individual private lives become increasingly published and made into a façade.

I source my material from social media (advertising screenshots), real life objects (duvets) and personal phone archives (street photography). The majority of my work has an abstract element contrasting a very stable element, this relationship is something you see time and again. I vs We, individual vs group, 1 vs ∞… etc. A lot of my work is never done in a sketch book but instead experimented on the canvas. This creates a lively and experimental feel to a lot of the work.

The entirety of this year has been a pursuit of understanding what the word individual means in the context of a vast never-ending chaotic network/ internet that we have all become a part of and connected by. I wish to further explore the idea of the individual in the context of the internet.
